  • Kids are under the weather this morning and my wife put on _Murder, She Wrote_. The kids are actually getting into it 😆

  • Greenland is about 26% larger than Alaska and 56,000 people live there.

  • Shocked a younger millennial today by affirming that I, too, am a millennial and turn 44 in about a month.

  • Killin Wetlands

I needed to get away from my desk today, so I drove out to Metro’s Killen Wetlands near Banks. I’d never been there and sort of stumbled across it by accident. Usually I drive south on my lunch break, but today I decided to go west. Washington County is some of the most beautiful countryside anywhere, dotted with farms and nurseries and awesome vistas. It made me wish I had $5 million to buy a couple acres. The upside and downside of the UGB is the high price of land.

The sky is on fire this morning. We don’t get many of these this time of year.

A serene sunset with a purple and pink sky is silhouetted by trees in the foreground. #pdx

  • Just me and a date with the S3 finale of The Bear.

  • My wife and I are at the point in our marriage where she _intentionally_ puts the paper towel and TP rolls on backwards just to annoy me.

A lot of pretty light this morning while walking Zoey the dog.

Tall trees are reflected in a puddle of water on a park bench.

  • I’ve discovered that I prefer listening to nonfiction audiobooks over fiction. For me, fiction is for relaxing, nonfiction is just processing information.

  • We went out to eat last night with a few good friends and their kids. Had a great time. After we put the kids to bed, we watched Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. I’m not one for writing reviews, but it was entertaining. I was skeptical at first, but it was fun and I needed something that wasn’t too serious.

A crescent moon is visible in the evening sky above silhouetted trees and soft clouds.

  • Currently reading: [The Mountain in the Sea](https://micro.blog/books/9781399600477) by Ray Nayler 📚

  • Completely forgot, but I recently passed 8 years as a nonsmoker. Unfortunately that’s about the time my weight gain started. Not sure what’s worse, being despised for being a smoker, or being treated so differently as a heavier person. At least I have my lungs, I guess.

  • IKEA. Send backup.

  • From 2007-2015, I worked for the agency that orchestrated the rehab of the Book Cadillac, and I managed the urban revitalization grant programs that invested in the major parks and public spaces in and around downtown Detroit. I love seeing the comeback and miss being there.

Dark, towering silhouettes of trees stand against a moody, cloud-filled sky at dusk.

  • Made some UI tweaks to my blog yesterday and have been considering adding a “Now” page. What makes a good one? Have an example to share?

A narrow path winds through a lush, green forest with tall trees.

  • Had to replace the volume pot on my Jazzmaster. Took me way too long to finally get this done.

A cross-section of a tree trunk shows growth rings and rough bark edges.

I hope to take one photo every day in 2025 and post it to a collection on my [blog](https://bryans.life/365/). While I tend to think about new beginnings this time of year, seeing this stump today somehow seemed fitting. How many rings do we have left?

  • Took our kids to see Moana 2, my daughter’s first movie in theaters. For all of us, it was $90.52 for four matinee tickets, two bags of popcorn, and a Diet Pepsi.

  • Real talk…keeping kids entertained when they’re not in school or daycare for weeks is messy AF, especially in a small house.

A table is covered with various art supplies, including drawings, colored paper, LEGO pieces, and a box labeled "Dazzling Foil Art."

  • I’ve been at an indoor play place with my kids for going on 3 hours. They’ve been going hard, too. Hoping these maniacs fall asleep at a decent hour tonight and sleep in a little tomorrow. I still have my doubts. 😅

  • Avon calling!

A weathered, abandoned wooden church with a bell tower stands amidst a drab, overcast landscape.
